Resistors and Potentiometers
Varistors - VDR
RSRSVA
A varistor is an electronic device that varies its electrical resistance as a function of the voltage applied to its ends.
Initially, its resistance is very high, therefore, for voltages below the nominal, it behaves practically like an open switch. When it is subjected to a voltage greater than the nominal one, its resistance drops drastically until it behaves like a closed switch.
Varistors protect circuits from being damaged by overvoltage, since all the current in the circuit will pass through the varistor, preventing it from passing through the rest of the components.
